Car of the Day 9/7/18

Today’s car of the day is this ’80 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Indy 500 Pace Car that was at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach. It’s from the second generation, which was made between 1970 and 1981. A total of 5,700 of the Pace Car Edition were made. This one in particular was owned by Burt Reynolds, and he was riding in it when I took this picture. The engine of this one is a 4.9 liter turbocharged V8 that produces 210 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of torque. The transmission of this one is a 3-speed automatic. This Trans Am was auctioned off for $110,000, and the Smokey and the Bandit theme song was played after the car was auctioned off.

Today’s car of the day is this 2009 Roush Mustang P-51B that was at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach. It’s based on the first phase of the fifth generation, which was made between September of 2004 and December of 2008 (model years between 2005 and 2009). Only 51 of the Roush P-51B were made. The engine is a 4.6 liter supercharged Modular V8 that produces 510 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a 5-speed manual. This Mustang was auctioned off for $47,300.

The engine of this one is a 4.1 liter V8 that produces 135 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a 4-speed automatic. This car does 0-60 mph in 13.1 seconds and has a top speed of 104 mph. This Cadillac was auctioned off for $9,570.

The transmission of this one is a 4-speed automatic. This Bel Air was auctioned off for $37,950.

Today’s car of the day is this ’63 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia that was at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach. The Karmann Ghia was a car made German coach builder Karmann and Italian designer Ghia, which is where Volkswagen got the name Karmann Ghia. The car was made from 1955 to 1974, but the first prototype was made in 1953. Originally, Volkswagen was only going to make just 4,000 of the Karmann Ghia, but they sold out pretty quickly. Because of this, Volkswagen decided to mass produce the car. A total of 445,238 of these were made in Germany between 1955 and 1974. There are also 41,689 that were made in Brazil from 1962 to 1974. The engine of this one is a 1.2 liter flat-4 that produces 40 horsepower and 65 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a 4-speed manual. The top speed is 75 mph. This Karmann Ghia was auctioned off for $26,950.
